This is Paul Stapleton’s story of the levelling up of a better relationship with his father. In recent times he had experienced his academic father as more aloof, as he was struggling to find his way through his teenage anxieties against a lifelong background of expectation.
They say that time is a great healer, and it is time’s past mysteries that unlock the barriers between Paul and his father.
Through a friend’s amazing discovery, they share a privileged experience of a scientific and technological first.
As events unfold, the pair become close friends and confidants, with the father making Paul realise that he is not a stranger to his interests and needs, and in turn he begins to see that his son has grown up.
Whilst carrying this aspect of human interest in a down-to–earth contemporary setting, as Science Fiction, there is a good attempt at being technically thorough to still satisfy the ‘Hard SF’ fan. In keeping with the accepted structure of a novella, these are two features of the ‘journey’ that awaits the reader.
